Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving was very nice. There was lots of food! We had two turkeys, one was roasted and the other was deep fried. I think I liked the roasted better but that was because the deep fried did not turn out so well so there was not much to go around. What I enjoyed most about Thanksgiving was the family. It was fun to see Katie, Amy, and Trent. It was nice to see Trent, Amy's husband, and get better acquainted with him. It is always enjoyable when other kids come for a visit, like Rosemary and Dave (they came in October).

I have been reading the Conference edition of the Ensign. I really enjoyed Elder Uchdorf's talk. During conference I really like the singing and music. Also, to see the building, it is so magnificent and big.

I just sent out my Christmas Cards and I hope that you all enjoy them. I would love to receive a card or email from you. And for those who have sent some already, thank you! The thing I look forward to most about Christmas is seeing Milton and Joyce. I can't wait to have them come home from China. When we first moved to California Grandpa and I, did not know we were going to stay, so that was hard to take. But now I feel like they are the parents and I am the child as they have now taken care of me for ten years. I now am with Evelyn and Jim and have been here two years this month.

Getting ready for our adventure

Its a hard job holding onto Belle while taking a drive

One of my favorite Christmas memory is when we were living at the saw mill. For Christmas Randell made Dick some chaps out of an old pair he had. He also made Deanna a table and two little chairs. In the wood oven I would bake cinnamon rolls for breakfast. It was a family favorite and came from a recipe that came from Wasatch.

I never thought I would live to see the fast approaching 2010. Let us see what it brings. Wishing you all health and happiness this Christmas!

Fall, Family and Friends

Sorry it has been so long since my last posting. I’ll try and update you on what has happened since then.

The last hot days of summer are coming to an end which means that I could go for walks at any time of the day now. Belle, (the family dog), and I are best friends because of this, and probably because I feed her people food… don’t tell Evelyn!

My last blog I told you about the lizard that made his home in my bathroom. Well, the other day Evelyn opened the front door and a bobcat came walking across the porch less than a foot away from her. She quickly shut the door, and ran for her camera. We have seen this bobcat before when we were walking. Jim and Sarah took these pictures of the cat sitting on a rock next to garage, waiting for a rabbit that was hiding in the bushes.

Rosie and Dave came for a week visit in October while Jim and Evelyn worked on their house in Escalante. We had a great time visiting and just being together. While she was here Rosie helped me call my old roommate from high school—Rosemary Belliston. We were roommates and best friends, we since exchange letters all these years.

Rosemary Belliston

I look forward to the holidays when I can see more family and hear from you all. Evelyn and I are working a Christmas gift for each of you. I hope you will enjoy it.
I am doing well physically too! I go to the doctor, he says I am in good health and have really strong bones. I hope that I have passed this trait on!
Finally, I realized that I didn’t tell you why I named my blog the Last Chance Motel. Randal and I began building the motel in the spring of 1955; and opened it in August of 1956. The name has a double meaning. First, the motel was our “Last Chance” to make a living and the Last Chance for travelers to find a bed before heading down the road. Since then the motel has had two other name The Escalantan and then The Padre.

Love you all, Be Sweet Grandma
PS Please send me pictures of the kids in their costumes. It would make my day to see them!

My Encounters with Wildlife

Lately I have had many encounters with wildlife here in the desert. It all started a couple of weeks ago when I went to take a shower when I found this in my bathroom:

A couple of weeks later we went for our walk around the neighborhood and found one of these:
On the walk we also ran into one of these

Living here in the desert can be quite eventful in that you never know what you might run into. However from my bedroom window I also get to see these, so I guess its all worth it

I love you all, fall is coming which is a beatiful time of the year so if you would like to come visit let me know!

Escalante for the 24th of July

This has been a great summer in Arizona! And to top it all off I was able to go to Escalante for the 24th of July. We spent the week visiting with each other on the porch, going to the parade, and ended with a big family dinner on Saturday. Many of you came to see me and I got to meet new grandchildren and family members. We talk with Joyce and Milton on Skype in China. I also had friends stop by and visit. I enjoyed my time there with all those who came to see me. I wish that I could see everyone but pray for you always. I am not leaving for Escalante any time soon…but you are always welcome to visit me in Tucson! Here are some pictures from my trip!

Me and some of my kids!

Taking a nap with belle on the couch(our favorite thing to do together other then walks)

My New Blog

I am excited to stay in contact with my family in a new way, a blog. I am hoping that it enables me to share my life with my many family members. It will be kept up to date on what I am doing in Tucson or wherever I travel. We hope that you enjoy the posts and pictures.
I have entitled my new blog The Last Chance. Can anyone guess where I got the name for this blog? If you think you know, leave a comment or send me an email.
